| WESTERN STATES RECTIFIER COURSE
TUESDAY, MAY 6 to THURSDAY, MAY 8, 2008 WESTERN STATES CORROSION SEMINAR is proud to offer this intensive 2-1/2 day course.
COURSE OUTLINE
- WELCOME AND INTRODUCTION - All of the attendees to the seminar, CP Tester Course, and Rectifier Course are welcomed.
- FILM: CORROSION IN ACTION - This classic film on corrosion basics is presented to all of the attendees to the seminar, CP Tester Course, and Rectifier Course.
- WELCOME BY RECTIFIER INSTRUCTOR - The attendees are sent to their respective classrooms. The Rectifier Course outline and objectives are discussed.
- SLIDE PRESENTATION - Rectifiers and their application, styles, types, features, and typical field installations.
- TECHNICAL SESSION - Theory and operation, Ohm's Law, basic cathodic protection, reference voltages, potentials, and IR free definition. Demonstrate working model of a CP system and the relationship to a rectifier.
- RECTIFIER COMPONENT DESIGN AND OPERATION - Transformers, silicon and selenium rectifiers, surge protection, breakers, fuses, lightning protection, etc. Maintenance and maximum operating temperatures of each major component.
- SHUNTS - Shunts and shunt readings and factors.
- SPECIAL PURPOSE RECTIFIERS AND THEIR USE - Oil-immersed units, three phase, constant current, potential control, and multiple circuits. Demonstration of constant current and potential control units, and remote monitoring.
- WIRING DIAGRAMS AND SCHEMATICS - Typical types.
- RECTIFIER AND CP SYSTEM EFFICIENCIES AND IMPROVEMENTS - Conventional readings vs. watt-hour readings, power factors, and methods of increasing rectifier output ratings.
- GENERAL RECTIFIER MAINTENANCE AND REPAIRS - Test instrument use and operation, transformer and stack replacements, determining cable lead polarity, cable breaks, series and parallel operation, and interrupter operation.
- TROUBLESHOOTING - Standard units vs. special purpose, usefull hints, and troubleshooting aids.
- HANDS-ON TROUBLESHOOTING - Analyze various problems and perform repairs (bring your own meter).
- NACE-SPONSORED RECTIFIER TEST
- TEST ANSWERS AND GENERAL DISCUSSION.
**PLEASE BRING YOUR MULTIMETER FOR THE HANDS-ON SESSION** INSTRUCTOR: John Bollinger – Farwest Corrosion Control Company www.farwestcorrosion.com
